Layher Event Systems setting the stage for the Matterhorn
- Posted by: brightland
150 years ago, the Englishman Edward Whymper was the first person to reach the summit of the 4,478 metre-high Matterhorn. To mark this anniversary, the open-air theatre group Freilichtspiele Zermatt are staging “The Matterhorn Story”, the story of that initial ascent, in front of an imposing backdrop – the Matterhorn itself. That was made possible by the highest-altitude open-air theatre in Europe. To integrate Switzerland’s most famous mountain into the setting, the organizers commissioned the scaffolding company AS Gerüste AG of Zermatt with building, on the Riffelberg, a three-section stand for seating 700 people, a stage area, and two towers for lighting and sound – at an altitude of more than 2,500 metres. Building on topographically demanding terrain high up in the Alps was a challenge that the company was able to meet using Layher’s EV 86 stand system. The substructure using Allround Scaffolding equipment permitted precise height adjustment without any problem.
