Scaffolding as a torchbearer

This is where media artists Frieder Weiss and Johannes Brendel are presenting their air-and-light sculpture “Lady Liberty‘s Fackel” (torch), inspired by the Statue of Liberty in New York. This required a flexibly adjustable and strong substructure. The solution was found by the Nuremberg-based company Schüttler Gerüstbau GmbH in Layher Allround Scaffolding. A variety of standard lengths and a few expansion parts such as lattice beams enabled the funnel-shaped geometry to be precisely reproduced, and the total weight of the 5 metre high structure to be absorbed without problem. The installation of steel decks at the top deck level also permits the installation of three metal foils – the flames – and the 18 fans plus the light sources. A “red-hot” performance.
